Torque Drift 2 and the state of licensed racing NFTs
After F1 Delta Time’s shutdown showed the risk of licensed NFT games, Torque Drift 2 is the live case study of the model’s survival — officially licensed real-world cars as NFTs inside the MotorVerse ecosystem.
What Torque Drift 2 is
Developed by Grease Monkey Games (an Animoca Brands studio), Torque Drift 2 is a drift-racing game where cars, parts and liveries are NFTs. It carries real manufacturer licences — the same model F1 Delta Time pioneered, but built as a standalone game rather than a single-licence product.
How it survives where F1 Delta Time did not
Multi-licence design: losing one manufacturer licence does not end the game. REVV token integration ties it to the broader MotorVerse economy, so assets carry utility across titles rather than in one game only.
What to verify before buying any racing NFT
- Named licence — a manufacturer or league named in official docs, not implied branding.
- Current utility — can the asset be used in a playable build today?
- Secondary market — is there a real marketplace with sales history for the collection?
- Studio health — a studio with shipping titles (Animoca’s MotorVerse) is a better bet than a whitepaper.
